Music video tings 2

Last weekend we shot the second and last part of the music video by the eager students :)

We shot it at the African Music Store on Long Street and it was all fun and games. I don't mind getting dressed up and pretending for a day. There is so much amazing music available at that store. It is a pity that the store was closed, so I couldn't buy anything. But I'm definitely going back to pick up a few Stimela albums and definitely some Femi as well.

I will post the music video as soon as the young minds are done with it... Which should be pretty soon. Yay!!

Music Video Tings

Yes. I used the word 'tings' in the post title. Moving right along.

Last weekend I shot the first part of the music video for a song I released almost a year ago (Butterflies DJ Zinhle remix). A friends little sister is a film school student in 3rd year and she approached me to shoot a music video. Marcee and I are already clear about what music videos we are shooting next, concepts, dates etc. So we thought it would be cool to give them Butterflies (DJ Zinhle remix) to work with. It was the first one of my songs to be playlisted A LOT overseas. It was only 8 countries, but the reception was very good.

Last Saturday was the 'green screen' shoot. I had never done a green screen shoot, so it was very interesting. I had to do a lot of pretending. The idea is that there are butterflies all around me and I'm interacting with them. It made me feel like I always do; crazy. So I suppose it was no different to every day of my life.

The dress is by Lazuli. We spent all morning trying things on and just before we left I tried this one on and Marcee and Bukiwe (stylist) both agreed that it was the ONE. This weekend we shoot the rest of the music video.

I performed Butterflies on Expresso in Feb of this year. Its a very naked, stripped down version of the song.

Way Back When (Davina)

Female singers in the 90s dressed in a way I wished my mother would let me dress. But she wasn't having any of that. I love that Blue outfit with the Blue lipstick.

Way Back When (Horace Brown)

90s RnB was cool. I still know all the words to this song.

The World We Live In

Bless your body, bless your soul
Pray for peace and self control

Elephant Shoes

Please let me apologise for starting off this intro with a cliche; Last week I was driving and listening to 'The Fresh Drive'. I don't listen to a lot of radio but if I'm in my car when the Fresh Drive is on, I will almost always tune in. This song came on and something happened inside of me. Its difficult to explain without sounding like a complete lunatic.

Before the chorus came in I was already in love with the melody and the guys sweet unassuming voice. I could tell almost immediately that this is the future of South African music. I didn't want the song to stop but I was also curious as to who this very talented guy was. Ladies and gents allow me to introduce you to Cape Town singer songwriter Mr Jimmy Nevis.I haven't been this excited about a song in a while. I have been singing this song ever since I heard it.

Something new (Vida)

I mentioned in my post yesterday that Marcee and I have decided to make small changes in our lives. One of those things is trying new things. From new restaurants to something bigger like living in a new city. We started yesterday by trying out the brand new Vida in Green Point (Prestwich street).

My love for Vida started in my second year in Cape Town and Marcee became a fan as soon as she landed in the mother city. Being a 2 man record label we spend a lot of time in coffee shops; meeting with other people or just discussing 'internal issues'. Its safe to say the '2 Witches' are coffee shop freaks.

I LOVE the furniture in this Vida.

Woza Summer, because I will definitely spend many afternoons sitting outside
Yay new Vida!!

Porcelain 'Coffee Freak'. Out!

It's here folks. Go ahead and have a listen and then listen again and then pour yourself a drink and dance to it. The Das Kapital remix of 'Today is the Day'. I LOVE it :)

Heartbeat

You already know how much I love Community, well I think I am becoming a Childish Gambino fan. This song is too much. LOVE IT!!!

FOREVER

This remains one of my favourite songs. The first time I saw this video I was a little kid (about 7 or 8). I couldn't stop looking at her. She was just gorgeous. I just wanted to sing along with her and I didn't even know the song. RIP Whitney. What you gave us is FOREVER!

Way back when (Falling)

Let me just say that this is the first time I hear this bizarre rap at the beginning of the song. I prefer to original. Montell Jordan was everything. 90's RnB was my stuff man. I had THE BIGGEST crush on Montell lmbao.

One of dem days

I'm having an off day. This whole week has felt a little wonky. I just wanna hide out in my room and these migraines have been kicking my ass. I've had 2 this week, which means I have been out of action all week.

Ms Thang was one of my favourite albums when I was younger. It, like many of my albums, was stolen. I loved Monica's sexy tomboy vibes. Her, Brandy and Aaliyah were my girls when I was in my teens.

Gaw-jus

I want to reach out and put my arms around her. Perhaps some of that beauty and grace will rub off on me. Oh my... This photo!

Way Back When (Drive)

I LOVE this song. Its such a red-wine-evening song for me.

One of the things I miss about doing 'midnight express' on Radio 2000 is playing music like this. I truly believe that I had a great radio career. It was fun and we were doing something that no other radio stations were doing (at the time). But you know... Somebody always has to fuck it up. One day... One day. I will return to radio.

Its LOVE folks

So last time it was Lady Killer. I'm happy to say that I am in love again. This time it is with the most unlikely album: Cole World (Sideline Story). I am but a hip hop seedling so sometimes I don't connect with hip hop like most people do. Yesterday while I was working I came across an album that sweet Marcee had. I put it on and I'm finding it hard to listen to anything else. Oh yeaaaah. I'm actually listening to the album right now.
