Captain Porcelain Sparrow

There is a war in my house.

A war between me & my bestfriend of 14 years. people have tried to intervene, but nobody has been able to bring this conflict to an end. What could be causing this fighting, you may ask yourselves. Please see the picture below for the answer.

My Johnny Depp boots. My beloved boots. I bought these beauties a few years ago. It was love at first sight. I had the right amount of money in my bank account. They were displayed beautifully at Luella. I hadn't grown tired of walking around Canal Walk & was in a generally good mood. It was love at first sight.

Now the reason I call them 'Johnny Depp Boots' is because Mr Depp (one of my favourite actors) has a favourite pair too. The Fashionable are constantly looking down on him & perhaps I may have made a smart remark once or twice. See Johnny's pair below.

I completely understand where he is coming from. Why throw out your favourite shoes, just because your best friend *side eye* doesnt like them? Why wear other shoes, when the boots look amazing with your favourite dress (see dress below)? Why?

Look how happy I am...

Just call me Captain Porcelain Sparrow, because those boots are not going anywhere!

Slipping away

A while ago I had the opportunity to work with Richard the 3rd (amazing DJ) and we came up with a gem called 'Slip'. Its dub step meets Black Porcelain, it's the best way I can describe it. He played the beat for me & the words just started flowing out of me. It was one of the most natural processes for me.

Have a listen to Slip (below) and just enjoy being 'dragged down'.

one two
here we go again
four five
wont you let me be
six seven
hate me suddenly
nine ten
how can this be love?

one two
you are gone again
four five ten
so incomplete
six seven
hate you quietly
nine ten
this is how we love...

and I slip and fall away
drag me down with drunken love
and I slip and fall away drag me down.
drag me down

and I slip and fall away
drag me down with drunken love
and I slip and fall away drag me down.
drag me down

drag me down

Sia

Every Sunday I'm going to blog about things that inspire me as a musician.

I saw this live performance by Sia a few months ago. I was so impressed, but I had stopped blogging. Now that I am doing it again, I would like to share it.

I loved that she let the theme live beyond the video (see below) and found a way to keep it beautiful live. This woman has an incredibly unique voice & her quirky-ness is also quite endearing. She definitely isn't weird for 'being weird' sake. She appears to be really comfortable with The-Weird.

I love colours, I think people don't get creative enough with colours, the use of colour in the video is simply beautiful. This is honestly the first time I felt like the music was being well represented visually. Often music videos are not an extension of the music itself, but in this case it was a perfect match. I have to hand it to her (pun intended), it is a thing if beauty!

I am inspired. Thank you Sia. :)

All things Bright & Beautiful

In 2007 I started my first blog: music, life and MUSIC.

I was in the early stages of my journey as a musician and all of 24 years old. That blog served me well. I learned how to do this 'web logging' thing and got kinda okay at it lol.

It is now 2010, I'm 27, still a music seedling and in desperate need of a change.

There are 100 days left of this year. Just 100... It seems like just last week when we were throwing away the stale bitterness of 2000-and-shine/mine. I feel like the Soccer World Cup opening match was a few days ago. Oh the madness on Greenpoint main road on the last day of the world cup. Spain won and we were happy for them. We celebrated ourselves, soccer and my beautiful country

I just loved this woman's vibe

Ms Marcee & some soccer fans at Cape Quarter

Me & a very very happy vuvuzela-blowing-soccer-fan

All that has happened though and slowly I can smell the decay of 2010. People are starting to look at her like the party guest who is getting too drunk and loud. Lord knows it hasn't been an easy year for me. I dont wanna wish away the time. In fact I want to celebrate. This new blog is all about celebrating and sharing.

Looking back at those pictures of the last night of the world cup, I'm looking forward to more good times in 2010. Even if there are only a hundred days left of this year.
